Cooking

The curriculum is created to develop cooking skills and knowledge which is a critical and crucial life skill. The aim is to enable learners to feed themselves and others affordably as well as to develop a wider understanding of the benefits of a healthy and nutritious diet for themselves, their families and the communities in which they live.

Knowledge, skills and understanding of where food originates is developed, alongside the concept of seasonality and characteristics of ingredients. How food choices are influenced by lifestyle, diet, cost, culture, environmental factors and animal welfare are covered with importance.

Learners build on awareness of taste and be sensitive to the impact the food they make has on themselves and others, including the environment.
