Work Related Learning

This is an important part of our curriculum offering learners over 14 years of age but more usually in Year 11, an opportunity to develop transferrable workplace skills and experiences.  Many learners thrive in a non-traditional learning environment that allows them to learn new skills in a more “hands-on” way.  All our vocational courses allow our learners to achieve accreditation from Entry Level up to Level 2 with qualifications recognised by post-16 providers and employers. Our vocational courses are provided by:

• The Ark Wigan
• Tyler Lee

In addition, we value and support the offer of work experience placements from local companies which are pertinent to the individualised timetable of some of our Key Stage 4 learners.  These placements include retail outlets, construction companies, childcare providers and catering outlets which supplement the academic work that the learners complete as part of their options courses.

Work related learning (WRL) outside the classroom is also supported by taught sessions in school that incorporates careers education and work skills, with learners working towards recognised vocational BTECs.  It is supported in the PSHE curriculum at Key Stage 4, with learners completing short courses in employability, food hygiene, first aid and other associated qualifications

Extended Vocational Provision

For very small number of our learners, a programme of extended vocational learning is the best way to address their needs.  This is always supported by tuition in English and maths, delivered by Three Towers staff either remotely, on our Hindley site, at the vocational placement or at a mutually convenient offsite location e.g. a local library.

Quality Assurance

Learners’ attendance, attitude to learning and progress towards their targets are carefully monitored and rewarded in line with Three Towers’ policies.  Rigorous quality assurance procedures, close cooperation and daily communication with all our providers ensures that our learners understand that offsite provision is still closely monitored by Three Towers.
